  8. Welcome to NFL Quarterback Club '97.
  9. Before this program can run properly on your machine
  10. it must first have the proper files copied on
  11. to your hard drive and sound audio options determined.
  12.  
  13.  
  14. THE INSTALL PROGRAM
  15. =======================================
  16.  
  17. When the install program is first run, the UniVBE
  18. utility will want to test your computer's video
  19. capabilities.  It is not necessary to run all of the
  20. tests and hitting ESC when promted by the utility is
  21. not a problem.  The installation program will
  22. ask you for information about the size of the installation you
  23. wish to use.  Moving around the game in general will be faster
  24. with larger install options.  After the install program runs
  25. the "SETSOUND.EXE" utility is executed automatically.  This
  26. utility will allow you to setup the game for your sound card.
  27. It is not necessary to install a midi driver since the game does
  28. not use midi sequences.  As mentioned under the "VIDEO CARDS"
  29. section of this readme file.  It may be necessary to run the
  30. program without installing UniVBE.  This also applies to the
  31. install program and adding the -u option when running the
  32. install program may be necessary.  If the -u option is used to
  33. install the program then the program will automatically assume
  34. NOT to load UniVBE when running the game.

  37. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
  38. =======================================

  40. The minimum requirements to run this game are a 486 DX2/66 Mhz
  41. CPU, 8 MB of RAM, a double speed CD-ROM drive, 1 MB SVGA
  42. video card, and a minimum of 25 MB free hard drive space.
  43. These are the minimum requirements and higher performance hardware
  44. will produce better results.  During the install, you will be able
  45. to choose the amount of hard drive space you wish to use by
  46. choosing either Minimum, Recommended , or Maximum install.
  47. This choice will depend on how much free space you have available
  48. on your hard drive.  Remember, however, with more files put on
  49. your hard drive, the game will load faster and will perform
  50. better.

  53. SOUND CARD
  54. =======================================

  56. After the install program is finished copying the game to your
  57. hard drive, it will then automatically run the sound card setup
  58. program.  Follow the on-screen instructions of the program to
  59. complete your sound card setup.  If you have problems
  60. setting up your sound card, you might need to contact the
  61. manufacturer of you particular sound card.  It is not necessary
  62. to configure your card for midi sound.

  65. VIDEO PLAYBACK
  66. =======================================

  68. If the video playback in this game jumps or skips frames,
  69. it is possible that your CD-ROM drive is not the minimum
  70. double speed drive required to run this game.  Also, make sure
  71. you are not using any disk-caching software while you are
  72. playing this game.

  75. VIDEO CARDS
  76. =======================================

  78. NFL QBC '97 requires a VESA compatible 1 MB SVGA video card
  79. which can handle 640x480 resolution with 256 colors.  The UNIVBE
  80. VESA driver is automatically run upon setup of this game.  This
  81. works well enough for most video cards However, the UNIVBE driver
  82. may not work with all video cards. If you have an old card and are
  83. having problems using the UNIVBE, your video card may require the
  84. VESA driver supplied by the manufacturer.  Please contact your
  85. video card manufacturer for more information.  If you have a video
  86. card which is new to the market, this version of UniVBE may not
  87. support it.  If this is the case, you can try to run the program
  88. without loading UniVBE.  To run the game without installing UniVBE
  89. type :

  93. note :  -u only needs to be used once to run the game the first
  94.     time.  Every run after that the game will automatically
  95.     assume not to load the UniVBE drivers.  If the -u was
  96.     used to install the game then the game will assume not
  97.     to load UniVBE.

  99. Although not supported, most ISA video cards should work with
  100. QBC '97.  Most of the problems with these cards have been worked
  101. out, however, the full motion video clips may not play properly
  102. on some ISA cards.  If you are having problems during the video
  103. clips, you can run QBC '97 without the video sequences by typing:

  108. MEMORY
  109. =======================================
  110.  
  111. This product requires about 508 KB of conventional memory
  112. and 7,064 KB extended memory to run.  You can type
  113. "mem /c /p" at the DOS prompt to check the amount of
  114. memory you have available on your system. If you do
  115. not have enough memory you may wish to create a boot disk
  116. with only the minimum drivers loaded to run the game.
  117. If you would like to make a boot disk refer to the
  118. section below entitled "CREATING A BOOT DISK".

  121. CREATING A BOOT DISK
  122. ========================================
  123.  
  124. First find a Floppy disk which does not contain any important
  125. information since this procedure will erase all data on the disk.
  126. To format the disk as a boot disk, place it into your drive A:
  127. and type the following line.

  129.   FORMAT /S A:
  130.  
  131. It will ask if you wish to format another.  Type 'N' <enter>.
  132. Now, copy your autoexec.bat and config.sys files to drive A:.
  133. These files on your drive A: can be edited to remove all extra
  134. device drivers.  The only drivers which are needed are HIMEM,
  135. sound card, cd-rom, and mouse drivers.  Refer to the specific
  136. manuals for information on loading these drivers.

  139. NFL QBC '97 and WINDOWS95 <TM>
  140. =======================================
  141.  
  142. While NFL QBC '97 can run under WIN95 on most machines,
  143. the game has been designed to operate in MS-DOS mode only.
  144. It is recommended that if you are using WIN95, go to
  145. the "Start" button located in the lower left corner of your WIN95
  146. desktop, choose "Shut Down", and then "Restart the computer in
  147. MS-DOS mode".

  149. If you are having difficulties getting your CD drive to respond
  150. in MS-DOS mode, refer to your WIN95 manuals on how to setup
  151. your CD drive in this mode.

  153. If you are playing QBC'97 in a Windows DOS box you must turn
  154. off the Windows short-cut keys in the properties/misc part of the
  155. short-cut window.  The game uses these keys and will conflict
  156. with the system if they are not turned off.
